How To Write A Book – 7 Steps To Completing Your Story

That title comes with a big promise, and rather than fill this with abstract notions, I want to provide you with seven concrete steps to writing your book. The first step is easy but vital. You have to want to write a book more than the obstacles that stand in your way, because there will be a number of them.

The second step is to start with an idea, and it doesn’t have to be a great one. It just has to be an idea that you are passionate about. Most rough drafts aren’t great, they become great in rewriting and editing. The idea also doesn’t have to be completely new, we all have ideas that are bits and pieces of our lives and experiences.

The third step is not cavalier at all, but like one and two, it is essential. You have to start writing. There is no substitute for step three. If you want to have written a book, you have to write, and there’s no other way of doing this than to start.

The fourth step is to set a time to write, daily if possible. You would also need to set a goal whether it’s 500 words, or one page worth of work. A book can be started in a minute, but it has to be finished in real time.

The fifth step is to keep engaged with your writing. This is beyond the daily act of writing, but the mental commitment to do your best work. Part of this is staying engaged with the idea, continuing to research, and to keep generating smaller ideas that feed into the main thought.

The sixth step is to have a support network. This can be a combination of support and constructive criticism. While we all typically have someone, if you feel as if you don’t, they’re are online support, etc. At the end of the day you need somebody telling you that you can do it, and to keep going.

The seventh step is to navigate the curves. When you get to the middle of the book, make sure you’re staying with your thought, plot, or storyline, and begin navigating the rest of your book. The middle is actually the ending of the first half of the book, and the starting point of the second half.

There are a lot more things to writing a book, but these seven will help anyone write a book.
