Seek His Face

Revelation 20:11 (KJV)
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

Psalms 139:8 (KJV)
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

Revelation 20:11 may seem a strange verse to bring up the week of Easter, but it is not very different from something David said in the 139th Psalm. The Psalmist began by saying God searched him and knew him. In verse eight he said if somehow I could get to Heaven or go to bed in Hell, God was waiting.

All of us would want to get to Heaven, and none of us want to think about the other option.. David ends his chapter by saying this. Search me and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

How does that connect with Revelation 20:11? God made all things, but He never made a place for us to be separated from Him. He pursued us all the way to Calvary, not to judge us, but to have mercy.

We get in trouble when we choose our faults over His forgiveness. We get in trouble when we choose to hide our sin, rather than to bring them to Him. His promise is mercy! Isaiah said He gave His face to those who smote Him. He allowed them to pluck His beard, just so He could take our judgement for us.

His goal was neither hide and seek, nor judgement. His plan was to make a place for us to be with Him, not a place to be separated from Him. David knew something when you try to separate yourself from God’s presence, love, and mercy, where you end up is never good. An yet, David ends his chapter with another option, He ends by saying God is still searching for those who call on Him.

My invitation today is the same as on that day, please run to Jesus today, not away from Him. It doesn’t take a theologian to get this world is in trouble. I can promise you running from God never ends well, but running to Him leads to a place in His Presence!

Revelation 22:4-5 (KJV)
4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
